If you live on earth and like heavy metal, then chances are good that you have heard of Slipknot. For half a decade now, Slipknot has hosted its own giant metal fest at different locations around the world such as Japan, Mexico, and The US. This festival, dubbed Knotfest, is typically headlined by Slipknot themselves for the main act.

This year will be a little different however, as frontman Corey Taylor has stated that Slipknot will not be at this years Knotfest and that instead, fans will see his other band, Stone Sour, as the headliner. Naturally, there has been a lot of backlash from Knot fans who feel that Stone Sour is using Slipknot's monster fame and audience to sell its own newly released album. This year will feature 2 festivals, one will be on Oct. 28 at Foro Pegaso in Toluca, Mexico, and the other, a reboot of the very successful Ozzfest meets Knotfest, will take place on Nov. 4 and 5 in San Bernardino, CA.

Taylor confirmed to Billboard that Stone Sour would play both shows, saying:

“I think in a lot of ways your festival has to live past you, or it’s not gonna live at all. If it has to live and breathe on your presence, then it’s not a festival, and it’s not for anybody else but you. And for us, it’s always been more about the art and the music and everybody… That’s why we put so much work into it to begin with, is to really make sure that it was stable and it was strong and the foundation was there."

Changes to not only the lineup, but to the writing process itself, have made for a very artsy and expressive fifth album better suited for FM radio than tattoo parlours. These factors have surely gained the band more followers than it has cost them, but it still marks a very different and mainstream chapter in the saga of The 9.
